Competitive cat shows are held every weekend across the country, filling exhibition halls with cat breeders, cat judges, cat product vendors, cat enthusiasts, the cat curious and hundreds of cats. These photos are from cat shows in Somerset, NJ and Providence, RI.
The cats are judged in various categories, with special divisions for kittens, fixed cats and household cats.
The most competitive owners travel the country with specialized breeds like Japanese Bobtails, Manxes and Maine Coons, and extreme care for these expensive animals is the norm. Gerber baby food is fed as a snack, and some cats are given a super high-absorbency litter that, before use, has the appearance of precious crystals.
Yet with all the coddling it's still a competition, and someone's kitten will have to come in 9th place.
